15 May 2012:
From the BETTER LATE THAN NEVER department:
This only applies to MHAL Modified meets as the OCIAA league did NOT approve these changes.
The MHAL approved the use of a 6lb shot for GIRLS ONLY.
They also approved using 33" hurdles for BOYS 55mH event.
Note: despite what some coaches may tell you, the hurdle spacing did NOT change. It is still a 12/8/8/8/8/11 meter spacing from start to finish.
We do NOT use the hurdle spacing as found in the NFHS rule book for the 55mH event.
The NYSPHSAA first approved these two changes in 2009 but required sectional/league approval. Well, that occurred for the MHAL in 2012.
Both MHAL and OCIAA modified documents have been updated in the database.
04 May 2012: Here's you chance to make your opinion known... Take the 2012 NFHS Sport Questionnaire for Track and Field. Click here to get to the NFHS questionnaire page and then click on Track and Field. You have until May 14'th to input your feelings.
19 Apr 2012: This is probably a good time to point this out .. in the FORUM section of this site, all the questions sent to our State Interpreter for answers are posted there. At least one SOCAT VP passes these on via email for those not on our Interpreters distribution list.
Every TRACK official or COACH surfing this site should preview the Interpretation topic in the Forums as I don't post a notice of new entries.
There is good, really good stuff there as it happens at meets. Read'm and you'll be prepared should one occur at your event.
PRINT a copy and take with you to all Dual MHAL meets you have for the remainder of this season.
If you have questions or concerns, contact your UlsterVP or the MHAL Section chairperson in that order.
13 Apr 2012: New Officials... OrangeUlster Boces (OUBOCES) has written a document regarding "fingerprinting" procedures. Click here to view this document. DO NOT call the OCIAA office, however do call your area VP if you have questions after reading the document. This is for NEW OFFICIALs only.
28 Mar 2012: SECTION IX DUAL MEET STARTERS... The ".22 shell for outdoor dual meets" topic in the chapter business forum has been updated with the shell procedure that Section IX dual meet starters are to be following regarding shell costs at those meets. We all heard this at the Annual Meeting, so this is just a reminder for those present and a you have been notified posting for those that missed the meeting.
19 Mar 2012: Please contact the UlsterVP is you can work the Tiger Relays (see calendar entry for 28 Apr). He is in need of at least three officials, maybe more.
29 Feb 2012: (updated 07 Mar 2012:)
In the SOCAT Forum, "NFHS Rules", is a posting from our State Interpretor with information on the 2012 Rules Webinar presentation that was just released as a pdf document.
That document is in the SOCAT database. It includes many additional corrections he recommends you pencil into your books asap.
Also added to the document DB is a Steeplechase rules summary, by Chris Wise (Elmira and Conhochen Valley Associations) as well as an NFHS power point (.ppt) slide presentation.
A second posting is from Tom's email to distribution to "chapters, coaches and interested parties". Please take the time to read these documents and forum postings.
22 Feb 2012: ATTENTION Vertical Jumps Officials:
in case you didn't notice, the NFHS has come up with their own version of what the rest of the track and field world calls "5-alive". It is a different way than used at NCAA/USATF meets and may cause you confusion if you also work vertical jumps using those rule codes.
To avoid messing-up the call, it would be in your best interests to review the 2012 Track and Field Pre-Meet guide on page 3. The NFHS also has finally provided us a way to end this rotating flight call during competition. It is my professional opinion that this "modified-rotating flight" should not even be used if at any given height, there are eight or less at that height. However, at least we have a USA wide way to end a rotating flight in the vertical jumps.
11 Feb 2012: The NFHS has published their 2012 Rules Interpretations and rulebook/casebook corrections paper. It is available at the NFHS Track Site or a pdf copy here on the Socat site.
25 Jan 2012:
A copy is also on the socat site in the document database.
-As you might know, Fred Adler was inducted into the Rockland Country Track and Field Hall of Fame in 2011. Here is an informative biography of Fred as posted at the RCTF web site.
- Calendar has been updated with all the Section IX spring invitationals and championship meet dates. Modified invitationals and equivalent Section I meets will be added as soon as those dates are known.
(27 Jan 2012) date, venue and meet format has changed for the MHAL Championship. See May 19th calendar entry and the email from your UlsterVP.
